IRS Recruitment is seeking 20 - 30 experienced heavy structural Mechanical Fitters to support a large-scale project based in Wallsend, Tyne & Wear. This is a fantastic long-term opportunity to enhance your career within a high-performing final assembly environment.
We're looking for hands-on, mechanically-minded individuals with a solid background in assembling steel structures and a strong team spirit.
Your Role:
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for assembling steel frameworks, mechanical systems, and components to precise specifications. If you're detail-oriented, take pride in your craft, and thrive in a team-driven setting, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble mechanical components in accordance with technical drawings and specifications
- Use hand and power tools, along with measuring instruments, for accurate fitting
- Safely operate overhead cranes to position structures
- Conduct routine quality checks and report any defects or issues
- Diagnose and rectify faults where required
- Keep your work area clean, organised, and safe
- Follow detailed work instructions and production schedules
- Liaise with other departments to ensure project deadlines are met
Requirements:
- Demonstrable experience in steel structure assembly, steel fitting, or steel erection
- Background in Oil & Gas, Renewables, or similar heavy industries
- Comfortable working at height, on ladders, or scaffolding
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn from skilled colleagues
Desirable (in-date or recently expired certificates considered):
- MEWPs
- IPAF
- Abrasive Wheels
- Forklift
- Cherry Picker
Full training and external courses will be provided to align with site-specific standards.
PAYE Dayshift Pay Rates:
(Higher rates available for multifunctional roles – from £23.50/hour)
- £21.50/hr – First 38 approved hours
- £27.95/hr – Overtime in excess of 38 hours
- £32.25/hr – Approved Saturday hours
- £43.00/hr – Approved Sunday & Bank Holiday hours
